Check scanner and label compatibility before buying

Bring your scanner model and a sample of the labels you use to a demo. Check whether the scanner can read that label format and send input correctly to the billing screen. A scanner that reads only one-dimensional barcodes may not read a QR label. Do not assume every scanner works with every label or device.

Test the complete billing workflow

1. Check that the product exists with the correct code, unit and price.
2. Open billing on the device you intend to use.
3. Scan a supported label and confirm the selected product.
4. Review quantity, price and tax details before saving.
5. Test an unreadable or unmatched label and practise finding the product manually.

Common reasons a scan does not select the expected item

• The label is damaged or cannot be read by that scanner.
• The product code is missing or differs from the label.
• The input is going to another field or application.
• The label belongs to a different business or is unsupported by the workflow.

Barcode scanning and supplier-bill OCR are different

A product scan selects an item using its label. Supplier invoice OCR reads a bill image or PDF into a purchase draft that you review. Neither replaces checking the original transaction details.
